An Interview with Outgoing President, Josh Steele

1.      Why did you join Phi Psi?  What made Phi Psi stand out from the other 13 fraternities on campus?

As a freshman, I was told that Phi Psi was called the Gentlemen’s Fraternity.  I really liked the idea of joining an organization that had that credit all over campus.  Phi Psi has been nothing less than that.  The men in the fraternity are amicable, hard working, honest, and trustworthy.

2.      Why would you encourage others to pledge Phi Psi?

Like any fraternity, it has been a life changing experience, but the difference between Phi Psi and any other fraternity is the high quality of individuals who genuinely care about the house, the reputation, and the other members.  It is a very strong family bond.

3.      How do you think your college experience would be different if you had never joined Phi Psi?

If I had not joined Phi Psi, I wouldn’t have had a chance at several opportunities such as being able to be President and receiving the Phi Psi Scholarship.  Also I wouldn’t have met men that will be my friends long after school is done.

4.      What is your best Phi Psi memory so far? What’s your funniest?

The best Phi Psi memory so far and probably the funniest was when Corey Schwitz organized a Bounce Funplex Trip and we woke everyone up early in the morning chanting and jumping around the house.

5.        What do you feel was your biggest accomplishment as president?  What is the best advice you have for Eric, the incoming president?

In any great organization, improvements are constantly made.  I had the goal to improve one aspect of the fraternity.  I wanted to better the view of how the community looks at fraternity members and college students.  We had the opportunity to be the first Greek organization to join Bucknell’s Sunbury Development Program.  We have had training and are preparing to actually help elementary students with tutoring and athletics.

Eric is a very smart individual and has a lot of the same views as myself.  I suggest that he always trust himself and to even at the worst moments try to have fun being president.

6.      What is your advice for future generations of brothers?

Phi Psi Fraternity is not a social club.  Make sure to get everything out of it as humanly possible.  The Phi Psi on campus and nationally provide many opportunities that future generations of brothers should continue to take advantage.

7.      What is the one thing you learned in Phi Psi so far that you feel will stay with you throughout your life?

I learned that no matter how busy or complicated it gets that as long as your positive and you believe in your decisions you can make it through the tough times.

8.      What are your favorite things to do on campus/in Lewisburg?

I liked to go to the Lewisburg Pool in the summer and I like eating at the interesting restaurants in town.

9.        What’s your major?  What are your plans after graduation?

Mechanical Engineering.  Hopefully, after graduation, I will be able to find a job somewhere in Maryland.
